$3,838,003 of your tax dollars. Two deadlines. Two chances to say no.
And on the NIDA contract, more than $1,000,000 has never been spent. Only $409,742.75 of the $1,487,646 has gone out the door because the NIDA quietly pushed the end date back a full year in August 2025. That money is still in the account. It can still be stopped.
ADD YOUR NAME. This petition demands that Congress and HHS:
- Audit NIH. Direct the Government Accountability Office to determine how many open NIH awards still pay for animal tests federal law no longer requires and what they cost.
- Let them expire. HHS must let expiring animal-testing awards expire instead of quietly extending the clock, starting with #75N95024F00001 on September 12.
- Name the animals and name the drug. NIH must publish the species and the number of animals on every award it funds. Taxpayers paid for it. Taxpayers get to know what it is.
No more animal tests the law doesn’t require. No more waste.
