As your constituent, I urge you to cosponsor the bipartisan Preventing Unkind and Painful Procedures and Experiments on Respected Species Act (PUPPERS Act) to defund the VA's wasteful and most painful experiments on dogs. I was troubled to learn from taxpayer watchdog group White Coat Waste Project that the VA is performing "maximum pain" heart attack tests on puppies and other wasteful studies. Like 75% of Americans, I oppose these experiments and don't want my tax dollars paying for them. A majority of veterans and many veterans' groups--including 2-million-member AMVETS--oppose these wasteful and cruel taxpayer-funded experiments. So does former U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin, who recently stated he opposes VA's dog testing program. Congress has already enacted legislation restricting VA dog testing and directing the VA to phase it out by 2025. The PUPPERS Act would defund this abuse immediately and permanently. Please cosponsor this bill to end taxpayer funding for the V.A.'s painful and wasteful dog experiments.
