As a constituent, I urge you to cosponsor the bipartisan Alternatives to Animals for Regulatory Fairness Act (HR 1905). The bill will cut FDA red tape and ensure that drug makers have the freedom to use high-tech alternatives to wasteful and cruel testing on dogs and other animals to gain FDA approval. New polls show that two-thirds of taxpayers like me support this effort.

I was troubled to learn from White Coat Waste Project that the FDA is forcing drug companies to waste millions of dollars on misleading and slow tests in which puppies are force-fed experimental drugs for up to a year, and then killed and dissected.

The FDA admits these outdated tests fail to predict human outcomes over 90 percent of the time. But companies that have pushed back on the FDA’s unnecessary and burdensome animal testing mandates and sought to use alternatives have been rejected and punished.

This leads to long delays in safe and effective drugs becoming available to people who need them, and increases the cost of medical care.

Please cosponsor the AARF Act (HR 1905) to ensure the FDA allows companies to avoid its wasteful dog testing requirements and use superior alternatives.
