As a constituent and taxpayer, I was troubled to learn from taxpayer watchdog White Coat Waste Project that wasteful and cruel primate testing at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other agencies is on the rise.

Hundreds of millions of tax dollars each year are being wasted on unproductive and unnecessary experiments where monkeys are addicted to street drugs and alcohol, tormented with rubber snakes and spiders, drilled into, crippled and exposed to deadly toxins.

What's worse, the government admits these tests fail to help humans 95% of the time and waste billions of dollars.

Congress has enacted legislation directing the FDA to develop plans to reduce this wasteful primate testing, and telling the VA to phase it out by 2025.

Like over 70% of taxpayers, I oppose this outdated experimentation and support Congress’s work to cut this egregious waste and abuse.

I hope you will join bipartisan efforts to urge federal agencies to cut wasteful spending on primate experimentation.
