The Alternatives to Animals for Regulatory Fairness (AARF) Act will give drug companies the freedom to avoid the Food and Drug Administration’s cruel, pointless, expensive, and harmful dog testing mandate.

20,000+ puppies are killed each year for no reason other than to satisfy an outdated, 80-year-old FDA regulation.

With a more than 90 percent failure rate, the pharmaceutical industry’s own doctors and scientists don’t want to experiments on these beagles... but FDA severely punishes them for choosing high-tech, non-dog alternatives.

As a constituent, I urge you to cosponsor the Alternatives to Animals for Regulatory Fairness (AARF) Act to cut FDA red tape and provide regulatory relief to drug companies that want to avoid burdensome and wasteful FDA-mandated tests on puppies in favor of less expensive and more effective alternatives.

I was troubled to learn from White Coat Waste Project that the FDA is still forcing drug companies to waste millions of dollars on slow, costly, misleading, and painful tests in which puppies are force-fed experimental drugs for up to a year and then killed. The agency has even rejected and punished companies seeking to avoid this outdated dog testing mandate in favor of modern testing tools. This bureaucracy has slowed medical innovation and hurt businesses.

The AARF Act will ensure that that drug makers are not forced to waste money on abusing puppies and are allowed to use more cost-efficient and accurate testing alternatives instead.

Polls show that two-thirds of taxpayers like me want to eliminate the FDA’s wasteful dog testing mandate. This need for regulatory relief is especially urgent as the COVID-19 global pandemic is ravaging our health and economy.
