As a concerned {user_data~State} taxpayer and your constituent, I am writing to draw your attention to a misuse of our federal dollars and urge you to cosponsor the “Defund EcoHealth Alliance Act to prevent this waste of taxpayer funds.

I first learned about the shady nonprofit EcoHealth Alliance in 2020, when the White Coat Waste Project revealed that EcoHealth secretly sent U.S. tax dollars to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for dangerous coronavirus gain-of-function experiments on animals. Evidence also shows that EcoHealth colluded with NIH bureaucrats to bypass federal restrictions on gain-of-function experiments, violated federal transparency law, and obstructed investigations into COVID's origins.

Congress has also documented how EcoHealth repeatedly violated NIH grant reporting requirements, including failing to properly report the deaths of mice infected with its engineered coronaviruses at the Wuhan lab.

NSF, NIH, and USAID have recently announced millions of dollars in new grants to support EcoHealth’s dangerous experiments.

EcoHealth Alliance has proven itself to be an organization that doesn’t take its obligations to the taxpayer seriously in obeying funding restrictions or complying with its obligations as a grantee, and I don’t believe taxpayers should be fleeced by EcoHealth any longer.

Sen. Joni Ernst and Rep. Guy Reschenthaler introduced legislation — the “Defund EcoHealth Alliance Act” — to prevent this waste of taxpayer funds.

I urge you to take immediate action to protect your constituents, and all Americans, by supporting this commonsense legislation.
