As your constituent, I urge you to de-fund wasteful spending on dog testing in the Dept. of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) FY24 budget. Please also introduce legislation to stop the VA from wasting taxpayer dollars on unnecessary dog abuse permanently.

I was troubled to learn from government watchdog White Coat Waste Project (WCW) that the VA has wasted millions of taxpayer dollars performing "maximum pain" heart attack tests on puppies and other cruel experiments with no benefit for humans.

A majority of veterans and many veterans' advocacy organizations--including 2-million-member AMVETS--oppose these wasteful dog experiments. So does former U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin.

Like 75% of Americans across both parties, I oppose these senseless experiments and don't want my tax dollars paying for them.

Congress has already enacted bipartisan legislation restricting VA dog testing and directing the VA to phase it out by 2025. However, Congress did the same for kitten testing at the VA, and that didn’t stop the agency from planning a brand-new painful experiment on cats.

A permanent solution is needed. Please end taxpayer funding for the VA’s painful and wasteful dog experiments in the FY24 spending bill and beyond.
