Urgent Petition to Secretary RFK
Defund Animal Labs. Hold Kleinstreuer Accountable!

I, the undersigned, an American taxpayer, demand you take action.

Last year, Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. pledged to completely end primate testing and achieve “dramatic reduction in animal testing” by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Unfortunately, under so-called ‘animal testing czar’ and Deputy Director Nicole Kleinstreuer, the NIH continues to undermine this plan and waste millions of taxpayer dollars by renewing existing grants and starting new funding for animal abuse in labs worldwide.

Last year, Kleinstreuer said she was “working tirelessly” to phase out dog and cat labs and claimed that the funding “predates” her, but on her watch the NIH has doled out tens of millions in new tax funding for painful experiments on pets.

She even told NPR that that the NIH has “no intention of just phasing out animal studies overnight” and that animal testing is “very important” and “often scientifically justified.”

This is unacceptable. NIH is STILL wasting my tax money!

I’m furious. I strongly support Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s efforts to end animal testing, but I am disturbed by reports from White Coat Waste that these efforts are being undermined.

Last year, Secretary Kennedy pledged to completely end primate testing and achieve a “dramatic reduction in animal testing” by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Unfortunately, under so-called “animal testing czar” and Deputy Director Nicole Kleinstreuer, White Coat Waste has documented how the NIH continues to undermine these plans and waste millions of taxpayer dollars by renewing Fauci-era grants and starting new funding for animal abuse in laboratories worldwide.

Last year, Kleinstreuer said she was “working tirelessly” to phase out dog and cat labs and falsely claimed that the funding “predates” her. Yet on her watch, the NIH has doled out tens of millions in new taxpayer funding for painful experiments on pets.

Kleinstreuer has also falsely stated that the NIH is “constrained under the law” to continue funding existing dog and cat labs, even though NIH policy clearly states that the agency can stop renewing this funding.

She even told NPR that the NIH has “no intention of just phasing out animal studies overnight” and that animal testing is “very important” and “often scientifically justified.”

She is dead wrong and misleading taxpayers—and you must hold her accountable.

Kleinstreuer’s talk of “alternatives” to animal testing might sound good to some, but it is meaningless without action. Her NIH plan includes no spending cuts, no phase-out deadlines, and no accountability.

Kleinstreuer’s stance also puts her squarely at odds with:

- Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has acknowledged the wastefulness of animal tests and promised a dramatic reduction in NIH animal testing and a complete end to primate experiments
- NIH funding policy, which allows the agency to stop renewing existing animal testing grants and prohibit funding for new ones
- A majority of taxpayers in both parties
- Other Trump administration agencies that—working with White Coat Waste—have already taken historic action to shut down government animal labs and retire survivors

As a taxpayer, I urge you to defund NIH animal abuse and hold Kleinstreuer accountable.
